Conservation recommendation for transportation

#67: Use cruise control.

Cruise control maintains a relatively constant speed and provides gentle acceleration, key components of efficient driving. It can also help you avoid inefficient speeding — just don’t set your cruise control faster than the speed limit.

However, on gently to moderately rolling terrain cruise control may be less efficient than a skilled driver. The most efficient technique is to speed up on downhills or flat sections before an uphill and ease off the accelerator as the hill starts to crest. Cruise control won’t start accelerating until the start of the hill and accelerates through to the top.

Note: you should NOT use cruise control in heavy traffic, on wet, snowy, or icy roads, or in town. Check your vehicle owner’s manual for more information and guidance.
