Conservation recommendation for transportation
#74: Take the bus instead of driving for one long-distance trip this year
Taking the bus is seriously underrated. Bus travel is economical, bus terminals are often closer to home than airports and train stations, and taking the bus replaces the stress of driving with a chance to relax, read a book, or get some work done. Yes, bus schedules can be inconvenient — but that just makes you consider whether the trip is really worth it. And think of all the time you won’t waste sitting behind the steering wheel.
Just as importantly, bus travel is one of the most carbon-efficient forms of transportation. On average, traveling by bus has less than half the climate impact of driving alone or flying, and 87% the impact of traveling by train. On a 400-mile trip, taking the bus instead of flying would reduce your emissions by more than 200 pounds of CO2e.
