Why buy carbon offsets?
Climate change is one of the biggest environmental, economic, and humanitarian challenges we face this century. Our only hope is to attack it with every tool we have. Carbon offsets are one of our most important tools.
Everyone needs food to eat, a place to sleep, and ways to get around. Even after you’ve done your best to conserve, some of these activities will inevitably still emit greenhouse gases. Carbon offsets let you help build projects in communities across the country that cut emissions beyond what you could achieve through personal conservation alone. Done right, offsets make environmental and economic sense: at some point investing money in reducing your personal emissions is more expensive and does less for the planet than using that money to help reduce emissions elsewhere.
Some people buy carbon offsets to reduce their environmental impact and help usher in the technologies that will stave off climate change. Some buy offsets to support green jobs and promote energy security. And some do it to help build projects that bring economic and educational opportunities to schools, farms, and communities across the country. Brighter Planet’s carbon offsets do all of these.
