How does the portfolio change over time?

The carbon offsets you earn come from a “blend” of different renewable energy projects in our portfolio. We balance the blend so that it includes a wide variety of technologies and regions while remaining cost-effective. Over time, the blend changes — as projects are depleted, replaced, and added to the portfolio.
(We encourage you to look at our Impact section for an idea of how these projects help the environment and their local communities.)
A: Some projects remain in blend
As long as they still have offsets to sell, projects can remain in our blend.
B: Depleted projects are replaced
When all of a project’s offsets have been sold, it’s time to replace it with another project.
C: The portfolio can expand
As new and exciting projects come online, we may choose to expand the portfolio beyond its current size in order to offer it as part of the blend to Brighter Planet members.
