According to the U.S. Department of Energy, switching to LED holiday lights can save 90% or more energy when compared to traditional incandescent holiday lights. LED holiday lights are less of a fire hazard and last longer – up to 40 holiday seasons! If everyone replaced their conventional holiday light strings with LEDs, at least two billion kilowatt-hours of electricity could be saved in a month. That’s enough to power 200,000 homes for a year and approximately $410 million in electricity costs.

Once you have your LED lights twinkling, save energy by turning them off when you leave home or go to bed. If you use a timer, this will be a one-time effort.

When your lights reach the end of their life, what are you supposed to do with them? Most curbside recycling programs do not accept string lights. Some communities hold events for collection after the holiday season, or you can mail old lights to HolidayLEDs.com.
