    Beyond ethanol

Ethanol has been a cornerstone of U.S. energy strategy for decades, but the process of creating ethanol from corn is less energy-efficient than other possible sources, like switchgrass and other “woody” plants.

IPCC Fourth Assessment "Synthesis Report" released

We’ve been following the gradual release of the UN’s top-to-bottom assessment of climate change since February, when the Physical Science Basis was released by Working Group 1.

Now, a joint “Synthesis” report prepared jointly by all three working groups is being finalized for presentation to the global scientific community. Topics will include:

    • Observed changes in climate and its effects
    • Causes of change
    • Climate change and its impacts in the near and long term under different scenarios
    • Adaptation and mitigation options and responses, and the inter-relationship with sustainable development, at global and regional levels
    • The long term perspective: scientific and socio-economic aspects relevant to adaptation and mitigation, consistent with the objectives and provisions of the Convention, and in the context of sustainable development.
