How it works

1. Open a free Brighter Planet checking account online offered through Bank of America's MyExpression® Banking. Take advantage of a Special Online Only Offer—free of a monthly maintenance fee with no direct deposit or minimum balance requirement. You can also apply for a Brighter Planet checking account at your local Bank of America branch.
2. You'll get checks, debit cards, and statements with the Brighter Planet logo printed on them. Begin Online Banking service with free Bill Pay.
3. Every time you use your Brighter Planet Visa debit card, a percentage of your spending will help fund renewable energy projects across the country. Visit brighterplanet.com to read about the projects you support and share your commitment with your friends and family.
4. Join Bank of America's Add It Up™ program and earn up to 20% cash back on top of retailer discounts and your debit card rewards.
5. Enroll in Keep the Change® saving service. Every purchase with your debit card will be rounded up to the next dollar and the difference will be transferred from your checking account to your savings account. Bank of America matches your Keep the Change savings at 100% for the first three months, and 5% thereafter, up to a maximum total match of $250 per year. Every bag of groceries, every coffee and every tank of gas adds up to more savings for you.

The projects you help build

When you use your Brighter Planet Visa debit card, you help build a geographically and technologically diverse portfolio of renewable energy projects that reduce carbon emissions. The carbon offsets created when you use your Brighter Planet Visa debit card:

• are created through the construction and operation of U.S. renewable energy projects (such as wind turbines, farm methane, and solar panels).
• come from projects approved by the Brighter Planet Project Selection Committee.
• meet the requirements of our Carbon Offset Policy, created with guidance from industry experts and the Brighter Planet Advisory Board.
